Has included a visit by our favorite farrier. We simply love Rodney. He is THE Bomb. The horses seem to feel the same way.
What we love about Rodney is that he is so genuinely interested in and kind to horses. He is especially good with some of our more wounded souls. Quiet, calm and earnest he has even gained Cayenne's trust. That is no small accomplishment. We also love that he is constantly teaching us, always willing to explain and demonstrate and allow us to photograph or video anything we want to learn. Amazing.
We also had a visit from our favorite vet Dr. D. We heart Dr. D. He too is very good with the horses that come battle-worn into our little rescue and he is very kind. We are grateful to him for all of his help. This week he came to see Huckleberry =) Hurrah! FINALLY this poor horse got his teeth done. Doc said that he probably shook his head from side to side as often as he did because the hooks on his lower teeth were poking him in the upper gums. (Short pause while I think bad thoughts about those that allowed this to happen.) All will be well soon. We will see Dr. D in three weeks for additional shots.
And last but certainly not least, my beloved grandson was with me yesterday and today. He likely won't wish to go home tomorrow either. Yesterday he learned about vaccines, floating teeth and cleaning sheaths. Today he learned about farrier care. He had a riding lesson on Sun today. The first lesson was to groom the horse. Then we ride. Then we put away tack. Then we groom the horse. And after all that is done we cleaned stalls. I do have to say that I did not hear the first complaint. I will post photos of he and Sun together. I'm pretty darned proud of them both.
What an exhausting week... but what a wonderful one.
