Or maybe not. Very strange weather here and one of the wettest starts to the year that I can remember for awhile. No matter... today we had ambitious plans! The weather seemed good, the skies were blue and sunny. After feeding and cleaning dogs and horses I set out to get my 'extended' pony family in order. I had planned to bring Wildflower to the ranch today as well as travel to check on the Mustangs at the trainers.
I decided that it was best to hook up the trailer and drop it off at Ali's house then hop on the interstate to go see the Mustangs. On my way home I would stop at the grocery for the four items I needed, go back to Ali's and pick up the trailer and our little Arabian mare. Sounds like a plan, yes?
The first hitch was that I could not get the ball off my hitch so I could haul my own trailer. That meant that I would have to use Tammy's trailer. No big deal... but I think I wrenched my back trying to get it off. Bummer. Next I drug the pond liner up into the bed of the truck. My husband had wanted to throw it away but I just knew someone could use it... and Joe will be using it to make a water crossing for his trail practice area. Cool, eh? Man... was that heavy!!! No matter, mustered it up there and tied it down.
Off we go and just as I pull my the rig out onto the road I realize I've not put my driver's license in my pocket. Darn! I pull the trailer over and run inside. NOW we are on our way! Drop the trailer off without a snag and then hit the interstate. As soon as I get to the drop that allows me to see the city in the distance I know I may be in for a little trouble:
Where the heck did those clouds come from??? Uh-Oh... By the time I got to the city the winds started kicking up and the further I went the harder they blew and the colder it got. By the time I got to the trainer's place it was downright inhospitable. Still... I did get to see the boys and the trainer did work Lightfoot for me. He is beautiful under saddle! He worked him in the round pen and then put him under saddle and used the driving reins.
I DO have photos. But the camera is out in the truck and ... well ... I'm in here so I will post them tomorrow for you. All in all it was a great visit and I'm pleased. I would have been more pleased (as I'm sure the trainer would agree,) if the weather had been better.
The long drive home seemed better as the winds were starting to let up. I kid you not when I tell you that the smarty-pants temperature thingy on my truck told me that it was ten degrees warmer when I left my house than when I arrived at the trainer.
A quick grocery errand accomplished I was off to pick up Wildflower. Trailer hooked up and ready, I began to gather her things. It is kind of sad to take her from Ali's but it will be easier for me to work her at my place. Wildflower wanted to play the catching game. She told me so when I walked in with a halter and she gave me the hoof. I expect we will be playing this game the next couple of days. But when she comes she is done. Good, willing and quiet. She loads well but immediately she is worried. It is only six miles to my house and we get on the road.
Once we are here she begins to call for Scarlet, Patty-Cake, Cookie Boy and Miss Keno. They do not answer but my horses nicker to her in soft tones as if to reassure her. I put her in the turn out at first. When I go back to get her, we play the catching game again, but not so long this time. And as soon as I put her in the stall next to Cayenne she wants food. Ahhh.... this Arabian will settle no problem... just feed her! Now, please!
Cayenne tries to encourage sharing by insisting the last horse in this stall shared ALL her meals with her.

Nice try, Cayenne.
Tomorrow I will update you on how she is doing and upload some photos of Lightfoot under saddle.
