And as I walked past the window I look out towards the barn and it is strange not to see him standing there lit by the soft golden glow. For this last year he has been there, looking towards the house and sometimes reaching down to pluck his feeder with long teeth and drop it to the ground so it would thud. A sure sign that he was anxious for his breakfast. My heart aches for a moment but I know that Pie has a wonderful home .... even though that is not here.
Huckleberry Pie has been adopted and is living in southern California. How strange is it that he came into my care from a horse hauler that delivered him from there and Friday morning I trailered him back to the exact same area? What are those odds? He has a wonderful home there with a great family. There was much excitement and fanfare regarding his arrival. Our Unicorn Without A Horn now lives at the edge of the Elfin Forest. There is something poetic about it all.
Saturday mid-morning it began to rain. And it rained. It rained all the way home. Maybe the heavens were crying with me as I pulled away... one last look at this horse that I have loved and watched over these last two years. My heart is heavy... even though I know we did the right thing. I will miss him so.
I have not blogged since December? Well... The holidays made me crazy and then there was much to do to care for the horses and get things in place... plus a new grandchild has arrived! Our very first granddaughter.
In the meantime... I will try to focus my attention on our other rescues and will soon be bringing our own little Wildflower to the ranch to begin working with her. I've been on her back and taken that first ride. It was blissfully uneventful! The Mustangs are with Joe Weitekamp for training and will soon be under saddle! Keep spreading the word about them and let's see if we can't get these boys a good home and a fair shake! We will be having a rummage sale on the weekend of the 20th to try to fund their education a little bit further.
And... I will be a good girl and try to keep you up to date a little bit better.
